First Lady Laura Bush invited me and several other well-known children's authors and illustrators to come to Washington to take part in the 2001 Easter Egg Roll. I was scheduled to read my book The Bird's Gift as one of the events on the South Lawn. Unfortunately, it rained and the Egg Roll was canceled. I didn't mind.
